As a photographer, there's nothing quite like capturing the energy and excitement of a live concert. And when it comes to capturing that energy, few bands can match the intensity and talent of The Roots. With their innovative fusion of hip-hop, soul, and jazz, this legendary group has been entertaining audiences for decades, and recently, they took the stage at the Momentary, alongside experimental music collective KOKOKO!
As a lover of concert photography, I couldn't resist the opportunity to capture The Roots and KOKOKO! in action. From the moment they took the stage, the energy was electric. The crowd was buzzing with anticipation, and The Roots delivered, bringing their signature sound to life with an unforgettable performance. The atmosphere was filled with a mix of excitement and nostalgia, as the crowd sang along to classics like "You Got Me" and "The Seed 2.0."
Photographing The Roots was a dream come true for me. With their dynamic stage presence and incredible musicianship, they made it easy to capture the essence of their performance. From the intense expressions on Black Thought's face as he rapped his verses to Questlove's effortless drumming, every moment was a photographic opportunity.
And KOKOKO!, the opening act for the night, was just as captivating. This Congolese collective brought a unique sound to the stage, fusing together traditional African rhythms with experimental electronic music. Their use of up-cycled materials to create their instruments added another layer of intrigue to their performance, and it was truly fascinating to see how they turned discarded items into works of art.
As a concert photographer, this was one of my greatest live-action events to photograph. The combination of The Roots' legendary status and KOKOKO!'s experimental sound made for an unforgettable night of music and artistry. From the bright lights and pulsing rhythms to the enthusiastic crowd, every moment was a feast for the senses.
In the end, I was able to capture some amazing shots of both The Roots and KOKOKO!, and I'll always cherish the memories of that night. There's nothing quite like the thrill of capturing the energy of a live performance, and I can't wait for my next opportunity to do it all over again.
